MOSCOW SCHOOL OF POLITICAL STUDIES

The Moscow School of Political Studies (MSPS) is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation established in 1992 with the support of the Council of Europe.

The mission of the School is to foster the development of civil society and democratic institutions in Russia, based on the rule of law, strict observance of human rights and the encouragement of civic initiatives.

The School’s core activity is leading seminars for young leaders of all political persuasions: elected politicians, central and local government officials, businesspeople, journalists, academics and NGO representatives. Since the School’s inception, over 10,000 people from Russia and abroad have participated in its seminars. These events, ranging in length from one day to one week, give participants the unique opportunity to attend lectures given by world-class experts, and most importantly provide a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas.

The School also has a substantial publishing programme, with books by Russian and foreign authors, a quarterly magazine (“Obshchaya Tetrad”), and newsletters.

The invaluable work of the School has been recognised by the Russian government and many Western governments. In 2002 the MSPS was awarded the "Pro Merito" Medal by the Council of Europe. The School’s founder and director, Dr. Elena Nemirovskaya, was awarded an OBE by the British government in 2003, a Peace and Culture award by the Hiroshima Foundation in 2006, and the Ordre national de la Légion d’Honneur by the French Republic in 2009.
